Day 36 of 40 Days of Prayer

Name: Keith Christian

Camper: ’74-’78

Staff: ’80 & ’84

Now: Math teacher at Lovejoy High School and Shepherd at High Pointe church of Christ

My earliest memory of Camp Deer Run is a family retreat with our church during the 1960s. I remember the swing over the creek, very few cinder block cabins, and the rustic bath house. A few years later, I was asked to join my cousins for a one-week summer session, and that week hooked me for life! Jay Spencer was my counselor and group leader, and when we left at the end of the session, I knew I¹d be back for two weeks the next summer. After camping every summer until I graduated from high school, I came back to work as a counselor. I met my wife, Deneen, during 4th session, 1977. We worked on staff together after we were married, and our children have been campers and staff members as well. CDR has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. It has shaped me as a husband, father, and leader, taught me of God’s love and grace, put me in the paths of spiritually influential people, and connected me to God and His people.

My Prayer: May Camp Deer Run always be a place where people who love God can connect with each other and where people who do not yet know God can learn of His great love for them.
