Camp Deer Run is the place where I heard God’s voice whisper as the wind blew through the pine trees during quiet time. It’s the place where I saw God in every flower, rock, pinecone, and stick that I picked up during Group Bible. It’s the place where I felt my heart stir at cross devo when I watched and remembered that my God will go to any lengths to save His anointed ones. It’s the place where I heard God’s creation cry out in praise every night as the katydids and locusts sang their songs. And, it’s the place where I tasted a little bit of Heaven as I had Willie Mae’s roast, sweet tea, and Coca Cola cake at Sunday lunch.
Camp Deer Run is where I learned that Godly friends really are forever. It’s where I learned that praising God doesn’t always take place sitting in pews. It’s where I learned that complete and utter exhaustion usually hits at hymn time. And, it’s where I learned that good clean fun usually ends up in a muddy creek.
But above all else, Camp Deer Run is where I learned that a meaningful relationship with God is what really matters.
Prayer: “God, I ask that Camp Deer Run will always be a place where hearts are softened, your word is taught, and meaningful relationships with you are formed.”
